Wee Hours

It looks like this years Perseid meteor shower may be nicer due to the new moon!

A new moon means the exactly the opposite of a full moon. Which means that the moon's light (actually reflected sunlight) won't interfere with your night vision and pollute the sky with its light. And if you can get away from the pollution of the city lights, then you are in a better situation to see the stars and the meteors.

Even though the actual peak of the meteor shower is on certain days, it doesn't mean that you won't get to see any of the meteors at all. It just means that it won't be at it's "peak". So instead of being from 50-80 meteors per hour at it's peak, it would be much less than that.

Unfortunately, this year's Perseid meteor shower has it's peek on August 12th and into the wee hours of August 13th.

Which means that in order to take a good look at this awesome show, you may have to go to work on Monday a little sleep deprived!

But, I am willing to try to deposit some sleep into the "sleep bank" on the few days previous in order for me to not feel the ill effects of being sleepy. (And if you know me, you know I hate that feeling.)

Well, I hope they have a good time. It's great that they are taking the time to view something like this. It really IS a treat.

At least I'd like to think so.
